June 5

The past two days have been very busy so I was not able to post any new information. The good news is that these days were very productive in terms of preparations. The crane arrived at 8 AM and we turned Tamsie’s mold over, repositioned Liz & Ben’s molds, moved another mold for Tamsie, relocated the Cupola and Ojars then proceeded to move several stones about.

The crane arrives again.

The crane driver manages a tight fit in oder to reach Tamsie’s mold.

We also started cutting the trusses that we found at the scrapyard to the right size for the gantry.

I was able to start building my wood mold for my symposium sculpture.

Clouds

Ojars added more foam pieces to his stone. They will become clouds.

The gantry legs are done and the rail has been inserted.

New mixer.

New mixer.

The new Pedvale cement mixer has already had a good workout and there are more tons of sand to mix. Sure beats the old Soviet era mixer we used to use!

Paige will need lots of silica sand for her Furan mold.

Pallet Jack

Pallet Jack

Another great find at the scrapyard. We were able to get this pallet jack running fairly easily. It will become the cart for the Bull Ladle.

Paige will cast this giant mitten in iron. The mitten features in a very popular childrens story that every Latvian knows.

Many bottles of Propane have been delivered.

The fittings have been welded back onto the Bull Ladle.

Gantry standing!

Gantry standing!

The gantry is standing! We got it upright last night just before supper. The trolley is in place as well. This morning we are attaching the wheels and will hang the come-along. Should be in use by noon! This is a major accomplishment and a nice addition to the Pedvale studio. Keep following.

Nice blogging amidst all of your hard working and little sleeping in Pedvale. Hate to correct you, but it’s Paige Henry — Paige Wainright used to work at Sloss before all of the sudden changes. I hope you all the best, Paige Henry
