North Wind #1

Yesterday, Saturday, June 13 was very productive! The image above shows one of two pieces of laser-cut stainless steel that we  picker up from the shop outside of Riga on Thursday. On Friday, I began the process of bending the sheet and also was able to get the necessary stainless electrodes from a shop in Talsi. Once I had the steel and the electrodes things went fast. The following images show a step-by-step sequence of  building the sculpture. The final image is of the sculpture as it now stands. Tomorrow I will finish the welding and sand the pattern into the outside faces and she will be ready to install!

North Wind #2

Ojars ratchet straps needed a little help so I bought a couple more from the Hardware store in Sabile.

North Wind #3

One bent – one to go.

North Wind #4

The new straps helped a lot.

North Wind #5

The two sides that face each other were much easier to surface before welding.

North Wind #6

Ben got a good shot of me welding the center of “North Wind”.

North Wind #7

She is together and very stable!

North Wind #8

Tomorrow we turn her over several times to finish the other side of the welds and I sand the outside faces and attach the anchors and this year’s sculpture for the Park is done! Cheers, Everyone.
